Friday, 27 April 2012

Today I resigned. Today I accepted, that its not where you are anymore, its what you do wherever you are.......before I did it, this was going through my mind (please excuse my Regina Spektor obsession at the moment)....

"...this is how it works,
you're young until you're not...
you love until you don't,
you try until you can't...
you laugh until you cry..
you cry until you laugh......
and everyone must breathe
until their dying breath....
No this is how it works...
you peer inside yourself,
you take the things you like,
then try to love the things you took ....."

BIG day tomorrow. Need to start living and stop just existing....and I choose to be the best that I can be.....

Wednesday, 25 April 2012

Things will be better....better better better BETTER......just look up. Its always better.

Tuesday, 24 April 2012

I don't know what it is about this song. Maybe its all those hidden little lines in there....(not the part about 'I have become a man'....)..but..."If its life that you're loving, then there's nothing more to do''......or "you've got to discover you r code to get your gold''.

It transports my dreary Wellington room into the streets and towns of Morroco...where I saw the most beautiful man building sand castles...and we started walking, our shadows playing with the sun...Essaouira is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. You don't realize it in the moments you are travelling, but your memory stores inside your brain and heart all these beautiful moments, that seem to come back to you everytime you feel like you can't get through the day. I see why they call this stoner music, I feel high just listening to it.....Ok now I'm late for work....Enjoy x

...a day where I woke up and just uttered words....I wish I didn't do the latter so much. *tres Sigh*.....at least I heard this song..... Dream Dream .......Boom boom.

Sunday, 22 April 2012

Sometimes music just sneaks into my ear...like a sneaky little bee, and then it just tastes like honey. And I smile. Exactly what I thought when I entered a favorite cafe of mine this weekend and heard this song play. Oh to live in a time when Ms.James still played on the radio x

An interesting weekend.....Sometimes you can't go without the people you think you want to go without for a while. Everyone you encounter has passed you for a reason. The ones that stay - even more so. This one is for some of the main ladies in my life. Thank you for the lessons x

Thursday, 19 April 2012

I put this song on when I want to drift away to another place. It transports me to a plaza where an old church sits, where everything is Sepia colored and the air is just the right kind of hot. A sun kissed boy plays the guitar and kittens dance around my feet ....i'm wearing a pale yellow dress and white sunglasses and I have a crown of flowers in my hair.

Lets go.....

Hey M.Ward, Thanks for making love to my ear with this rendition. x

I'm in a dedicating mood this week. I just want to dedicate music to the people I love. Because they personify the songs, and the moments in my life that I love. *le Sigh* Profundo.

This ones for Jihaaad ;) .....  you can also follow her awesome blog on http://readjenn.blogspot.co.nz We'll be over the rainbow soon, I know it x

My best friend knows the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails.  ~Donna Roberts.

I can always trace moments in our friendship to a particular song. She is the other side of my beamed note. Gracias Shean. I know you love me even when I don't shave my legs, hence why you sent me this latest song x

I read a Maori proverb once which translated to 'turn your face towards the sun, and the shadows will fall behind you'......Its always stuck with me. Then I get this song in my email ..from half way across the world, where another one of my favorite humans is located. Thanks Alejandro - I love it! x

I love sharing music.Give me a new song over a cupcake. A chocolate bar. A cuddle (maybe). Its your ticket. Today I was spoilt rotten by my amiga F. Rodrigues. First I get a very late bday present in the mail (three wonderful books) and then she shares with me a beautiful song. Blissful way to end the day. I just wanna get fascinated with life, love and friendship. Merci Fi x

Its all about moving on to a higher place today....everyday. That's why when I grow up, I wanna be Janelle Monae. "When you get elevated, they love it or they hate it--- you dance up on them haters...keep gettin' funky on the scene, while they jumpin round ya, they try to take all of your dreams, but babe you cant allow it".

I gotta find peace of mind....I gotta find peace of mind....they say its impossible, but I know its probable.

The experiences you share and the moments you have with people that pop up so randomly in your life are to be cherished. Like that last spoonful you savor in your favourite meal. One of these moments was when a lovely young lady (now a lifelong friend) Patricia  came to do her internship in the law centre where I work. Because of her sunny disposition, It didn't take us long to hang out. one day I had a spare ticket to a Mayer Hawthorne concert. She didn't know who it was, but agreed to come see the concert with me. It turned out to be an awesome show, and one of my favourite concerts to date (hers too I heard). He even gave me his guitar pick! So glad to have been part of that memory with her. Hope to see you in Germany sometime Pati, this ones for you x

I am currently eyeing out my CD collection. Thought I would share my top Six music albums of all time (or at this time):

1. Billie Holiday - Lady sings the blues
This just gets straight to my soul. I don't think a finer record has been made.

2. Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of life & Marvin Gaye - Whats going on?
Life changing. Never fail to make me smile. Its really hard to listen to new music after listening to these two albums. They are definitive to every musical genre (except maybe death metal).

3. Paulo Nutini - These streets
And then you get to this guy. A rare "new" gem. I cannot believe hes younger than me, it makes me want to re-evaluate my bucket list. I think particles of Ottis Redding must have entered his spirit. This was my soundtrack when living abroad in Spain. Get enchanted.

4. Finley Quaye - Maverick A Strike
Just a pure hypnotic elixir of an album.

5. Buena Vista Social Club - Buena Vista Social Club
Listening to this album is like literally taking prozac. Its so euphoric and dreamy. Anytime I feel lost, I just put this on and it transports me to a better place.

6. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
Therapy.

Would love to know yours - share it with me in the comment section below :)

Okay I have been neglecting the lay-days ..... and oh boy what a lay-deeeee I have picked today. The beautiful Corrine Bailey Rae. Enjoy x

"Music brings us back ...back into our identity when we feel outside of it". Listening to one of my favorite albums and this could not ring more true. Feeling so homesick and restless....Anyway that came from a post on facebook, so here's proof that Music is nothing more than Magic x

Today I feel super sickly. I have much to do at work....I must persevere - so excuse this lame post but enjoy this awesome song :)

yel·low -  a. The hue of that portion of the visible spectrum lying between orange and green, evoked in the human observer by radiant energy with wavelengths of approximately 570 to 590 nanometers; any of a group of colors of a hue resembling that of ripe lemons and varying in lightness and saturation; one of the subtractive primaries; one of the psychological primary hues.

Had a wonderful  day today. Adding a new favourite spot to my journey....Tunnel Beach.
Below is the song that predominantly accompanied us as we walked down to the beach.  Its my favourite version of this song stripped down to just a piano and Chris Martin. Beauty.

Two for the price of none, ain't you lucky! Been listening to John Mayers guitar rendition of Lana del Reys "Video Games". Amaze-balls. Enjoy x

Its a cloudy day here in Dunedin.....we're going to the markets to get some fruit and take pictures with the train station, the most photographed building in NZ. Currently listening to this song and I think its a good 'Im -going-to-the-market-to pick up-fruit and little-mundane memories" kinda song. Its especially nice on a rainy day... Now put a little dance in your step!

Thursday, 5 April 2012

I start this blog with an idea, and a song. A song for each day. A song to match my mood. A song that I wake up humming (when I'm not dreaming of houses). A song that sparks my energy. A song that makes me nostaligc, makes me cry....makes me laugh. Makes me smile at absolute strangers. A song that creates lovers in my head, landscapes and day dreams. A song a day...keeps the doctor away.... I write this first entry as I sit at the University in Dunedin. I'm visitng my friend Areege, whom I often share many philosophical a socrates-esque moments with. This song reminds me of Dunedin for some reason (possibly because the boys are from here!), it also reminds me of living in the now and remembering who you are. But mainly that NZ music is awesome. x
